Read below for details and to apply.

Apply to Royalty Program

Purpose

In an effort to support relations between the Native and Indigenous OSU community and broader Tribal nations and Indigenous communities in the region surrounding the Corvallis campus, the łatwa ina Royalty Program will offer an OSU student an opportunity to represent Oregon State University at surrounding Pow-Wows and cultural events. The łatwa ina Royalty will serve as an ambassador at these events to represent the OSU Native and Indigenous community.

Responsibilities

Students assuming the role of łatwa ina Royalty will:

  • Represent the OSU Native and Indigenous community at designated surrounding Pow-Wows and cultural events.

  • Attend key university programs in their capacity as łatwa ina Royalty (i.e., Indigenous Peoples’ Day, Annual Salmon Bake).

  • Attend and represent OSU at key recruitment and/or welcome events (i.e., Orange & Black Days, Black & Indigenous Welcome, Tribal youth visits).

  • Meet minimum academic and enrollment requirements of program.

  • Return łatwa ina Royalty crown and other beadwork upon completion of their term.

In supporting the łatwa ina Royalty program, OSU will:

  • Provide a travel stipend of $200 per Pow-Wow or cultural event outside of Corvallis that the student is expected to attend.

  • Provide a $3,000 paid internship each year to the student serving as łatwa ina Royalty.

  • Assist łatwa ina Royalty in identifying which Pow-Wows and cultural events should be attended annually.

  • Review budget annually to ensure needs of program are being met.

Processes

The łatwa ina Royalty program will be reviewed annually to ensure the program is adequately funded and the needs of the OSU Native and Indigenous community are being met.

Selection of łatwa ina Royalty will be completed through an application process. Members of the selection committee will include student representatives from the Native American Student Association and the kaku-ixt mana ina haws as well as two OSU faculty/staff familiar with Pow-Wow protocols and royalty responsibilities. Criteria and scoring matrix will be reviewed annually by the łatwa ina Royalty selection committee prior to the spring selection process.
