Interim Co-Director's Welcome

Dear Friends–

Welcome to Diversity & Cultural Engagement (DCE). If we have not yet had the chance to welcome you to DCE and Oregon State University in person, welcome! DCE is many places, spaces, and moments across Oregon State University. Whether you find yourself in one of our seven cultural resource centers, in our central office in the Student Experience Center (Room 228), at a retreat off-campus, at a workshop, or listening to a speaker, we sincerely hope you feel the warmth of our welcome.

At DCE, we are a hub of culturally diverse student engagement and success. We support students’ abilities to fashion a better self and world. Whether you hail from right here in Oregon, one of the sovereign nations contained within the state, another state in the US, or from Pakistan, Indonesia, Ghana, or one of many other places across the globe, DCE strives to ensure that your Oregon State experience is an enriching one.

Together we aspire to create an inclusive community, where all individuals can fully engage their gifts and talents, and where we can dream of a more just future. We hope you will join us in sharing your hopes, cultural traditions, intellectual passions, ideas, curiosities, and successes. We also hope you find us when you need support, have a problem to work through, or just need someone to listen to you.

We have four core outcomes: critical inquiry, equalized academic success, community engagement, and transformative learning. We accomplish this through mentoring student leaders, developing educational programs, and engaging in dialogues that help us clarify our values and commitments. All of our work is rooted in love, as hooks described it, “To be loving we willingly hear each other's truth and, most important, we affirm the value of truth telling. Lies may make people feel better, but they do not help them to know love.” We hope you will share your truth with us and ours with you.

In Love and Solidarity,

Jason J. Dorsette
